About the Tutoring Program

The Wilson Branch Library Tutoring Program is a free program designed to give students extra help and practice in the areas of math, reading, writing and general homework.  A volunteer tutor works one-on-one with a child in grades 1-8. The program usually begins the first week of October and ends on Memorial Day.

Students are expected to bring materials from school to work on with the tutor.  Additional educational materials and worksheets are available in the library.

We are located in Windsor, CT, USA.

As of March 25, 2024 all applications for the 2023/24 school year will be reviewed for next year’s tutoring program.

Apply to be a tutor

We are always looking for more volunteer tutors to join the program. It’s a wonderful way to give back to your community. Tutors must be over 16 years old and be able to commit to being in the library for their weekly sessions*. Commitments and scheduling are flexible for volunteers. Tutors may choose to work with a student from as little as six weeks to the entire school year.

Tutors work with the tutoring coordinator to determine a schedule. They are then matched with a student based on their teaching interests. First-time tutors are given support on how to implement the initial session. If requested, the coordinator will sit in during the first session to help the tutor and the student.

If you would like to become a tutor, please fill out this form to the best of your ability. There are physical applications available to pick up at the circulation desk.

*Windsor high school students may participate in this program to earn hours toward their required community service goals.
